Fringed jumping spider
The fringed jumping spider is a small brown jumping spider with soft fringes of hair on its thin legs. It is one of the cleverest spiders in the world. It hunts other spiders and can work out new tricks to catch them.

It walks in a slow, jerky way that makes it look like a flickering bit of leaf instead of a spider.
If it meets a new kind of prey, it tries out ideas until one works, and then it remembers the trick.
In Queensland it creeps up so sneakily that other jumping spiders do not even notice it is an animal.
When it rests, it pulls its legs in tight so its shape is hard to see.
It has very tough skin that protects it when its prey fights back.
