The great capricorn beetle is one of the biggest beetles in Europe, longer than your thumb. It is black, with wing cases that turn reddish brown at the tips. The boys have amazing feelers that are even longer than their whole body.

The boy's feelers are longer than his body, but the girl's are only as long as her wing cases.
It is a longhorn beetle, a group famous for their very long feelers.
It once lived in Britain, but it died out there hundreds of years ago. Scientists have found British ones about 4000 years old.
Its feelers look a bit like the curly horns of a goat, which is where the name capricorn comes from.
