Fun facts
Its speckled colours match the granite gravel of dry river beds, so it is perfectly hidden.
It feeds when it is between about 24 and 32 degrees warm, and it waits for even hotter days to find a mate.
Males also sing by rubbing a back leg against a front wing, which makes a trilling sound.
Sometimes there are suddenly so many of them that they damage plants.
