Fun facts
Under water, the boy sings as loud as a passing freight train to call a girl.
He makes his song by rubbing a tiny ridge on his body, no wider than a hair, across bumps on his tummy.
Its song was so unexpectedly loud that the scientists thought their machines were broken.
Even though most of the sound stays in the water, people walking by the pond can sometimes hear it.
It lives mostly in the shallow water near the shore of ponds and lakes.
