Peacock butterfly

The peacock butterfly is rusty red with a big eyespot on each wing tip, in black, blue and yellow, just like the eyes on a peacock's tail. When it closes its wings, it turns dark brown and looks like a dead leaf. It is one of the first butterflies you see in spring.

What does it eat?
The butterfly drinks nectar from flowers like buddleia, dandelions and clover, and later in the year also tree sap and rotten fruit. Its caterpillars eat stinging nettles and hops.
