Wool carder bee

Anthidium manicatum
Name means: “carder comes from the way it scrapes fluffy hairs off leaves, like people once carded wool”

The wool carder bee is a black bee with bright yellow spots on its face and tummy. The mother bee scrapes soft fluffy hairs off woolly plants and rolls them into a ball. She uses this fluff to make a cosy lining for her nest.

What does it eat?
It drinks nectar and collects pollen from many different flowers. The babies get a ball of nectar and pollen to eat in their nest room.
