The meadow grasshopper is a little hopper that lives in grassy meadows. Most are green, but some are brown, purple-red or even pink. It cannot fly, so it jumps through the grass on its strong back legs.

Fun facts
The girls are bigger than the boys. A girl is about 2 centimetres long, a boy about 1.5 centimetres.
Both boys and girls have only tiny wings, so neither of them can fly.
Some meadows have lots of pink meadow grasshoppers. The colour is passed down from mum and dad.
In the south of Europe it climbs high into the mountains, up to about 2000 metres.
There are so many of them that some scientists think people could eat them one day, because they are full of protein.
