Fun fact: this one is not an insect. It is an arachnid with eight legs, a cousin of the spiders.

Most desert animals dig a burrow to hide from sandstorms, but this scorpion does not need to. Sand that can scrub paint off metal does not harm it.

Its armour is covered in tiny bumps. Scientists are studying them to make tougher surfaces for planes and helicopters.
