Two-tailed pasha
The two-tailed pasha is a big, fast butterfly with dark brown wings edged in bright orange. Each back wing has two little tails. Underneath, its wings look like a colourful mosaic of brown, red and grey patches outlined in white.

It is the only butterfly of its kind, the Charaxes group, that lives in Europe.
Butterflies born in spring are smaller, and their tails curve towards each other like a pincer.
It is so fond of fermenting fruit that people can lure it with a little wine.
It is a fast flyer and guards its own patch, often on the top of a hill.
The females are bigger than the males, and in Morocco they grow especially large.
